About Lehmag

Building materials I Engineering I innovative implementation
for a circular construction industry

Renewable building materials such as clay are a largely untapped resource for construction in Switzerland and Europe. Millions of tons of excavated material are generated annually in the construction sector, which usually ends up as waste in landfills or for landfilling. At the same time, important raw materials such as sand are becoming increasingly scarce – and many conventional building materials generate high emissions and energy consumption during production.

Clay stands here as a counter-design: locally available, deconstructable, storable, recyclable. It is not only one of the oldest building materials known to mankind, but also a material with enormous potential for the future. The European building tradition shows that clay is tried and tested - but has hardly been systematically integrated into modern building processes to date.

This is exactly where LEHMAG comes in: We are bringing earth and other regenerative building materials back into the consciousness of contemporary construction - through sound engineering, innovative applications, pioneering projects and our own tried-and-tested products. Our earth building systems are developed from real project requirements and combine traditional knowledge with modern, innovative building practice.

The result is a construction method that conserves resources, closes material cycles and sets new standards for sustainable architecture.

Inquiries

Acting regeneratively together

We are happy to receive inquiries about our products, possible collaborations or planned construction projects. The easiest way to contact us is by writing to info@lehmag.ch.

So that we can process your request as specifically as possible, we would be pleased to receive a brief description of your project and - if available - plans, sketches or other documents that describe your idea in more detail.

We value the exchange with committed partners - and will get back to you promptly.

Team

Felix Hilgert
MSc. ETH Building.

Engineering, planning support, management

During his civil engineering studies at ETH Zurich, Felix specialized in clay as a building material. In his master's thesis entitled "Excavated material as a new building material resource for Zurich", he investigated the potential of local, regenerative materials in an urban context.

After completing his studies, he gained practical experience at Boltshauser Architekten AG, where he worked in planning and project organization and was able to deepen his specialist knowledge of earth. During this time, he also became a research assistant to Prof. Roger Boltshauser at the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich - an environment in which the use of earth as a sustainable building material is actively researched, planned and implemented in real projects.

Felix is a speaker at home and abroad and has given numerous specialist lectures and published papers in which he advocates the innovative and responsible use of clay and other regenerative building materials.

Lukas Baumann

Project management, construction management, material knowledge

After around 20 years of professional experience in the construction industry as a bricklayer, Lukas joined Lehm Ton Erde Baukunst GmbH. There he played a key role in the construction of the Ricola herb warehouse made of rammed earth (Herzog & de Meuron) - an international flagship project for modern earth building.

During this time, he gained extensive practical experience in the implementation of large-scale projects with clay and developed a deep understanding of the properties and possibilities of the material. This intensive involvement with earth as a building material ultimately led to the joint founding of LEHMAG AG.

Today, Lukas is responsible for the development of LEHMAG AG's construction products and material mixtures. He contributes his practical expertise directly to materials research and manages the company's construction sites.

Lukas Baumann attended the training courses in 2019 Historical solid loam construction and Earthen building for architects and engineers of the Bauhaus Academy of Further Education Weimar e.V.

Fountain workshop

The LEHMAG production hall is located in a former cement plant in Brunnen. Here, materials are examined and prepared, components are pre-produced, material samples are produced and discussed with customers and workshops are organised.

Workshops

In collaboration with ETH Zurich, other universities and specialists, LEHMAG regularly organizes workshops for students, planners and construction professionals. Participants are given the opportunity to get to know clay as a building material in a practical way, experience the construction and process of a building site and gain a better understanding of the interplay between architecture, choice of materials and resource conservation.

Passing on and developing knowledge in the field of earth building is a central concern for LEHMAG.

The next workshop will take place on October 2, 2025 in our workshop in Brunnen - in cooperation with TERRABLOC and the SIA.
